VFK is a non-profit association established in 1997. The members of VFK are mainly food-producing companies with co-production of feed materials.
Initially the work of VFK was focused on assurance of microbiological feed safety. In 1999 a hygiene certification program was developed.
During the year 2000 discussions were initiated about the possibility to expand the certification system to encompass chemical, physical as well as biological risks. The VFK Feed Safety Standard was accepted on June 06, 2002, which now includes chemical, physical as well as microbiological safety of feed materials.
The VFK Feed Safety Standard has gradually replaced the hygiene certification system.
